[spanisch/englisch, 'kɔȖgadrʌm], auch Congo, Quinto, Tambora, Tumbadora, Tumba, einfellige Trommel westafrikanischen Ursprungs, in Lateinamerika beheimatet. Die Conga wird einzeln, aber auch zu zweien bzw. dreien an einem Ständer befestigt geschlagen, mitunter auch umgehängt oder im Sitzen zwischen die Knie geklemmt. Der hölzerne, fass- oder kegelstumpfförmige Körper hat eine Länge von bis zu 80 cm, Felldurchmesser 22-30 cm. Das Trommelende ist offen und darf wegen des Luftaustritts beim Anschlagen nicht auf dem Boden stehen. Congas können mittels Spannschrauben bis zum Oktavabstand gestimmt werden. Der Anschlag erfolgt wie bei den Bongos in vielen Varianten (Fell- und Randschläge, klingend und gedämpft) mit den Händen (Finger, Handballen, Seitenflächen, Faust). Der Conguero kann sowohl den Grundbass markieren als auch solistisch in Erscheinung treten. Congas ergänzen in jüngerer Zeit in Jazz, Rock und Popmusik häufig das traditionelle Schlagzeug. Dem Klang nach unterscheidet man Tumba (tief), Conga (Mitte) und Quinto (hoch).
